The Belt Will Work for a Long Time If Properly Adjusted Jul 24, 2008
By David Bower What can one say about a belt; it either works or it doesn't.
I've noticed complaints about the belt breaking frequently on the Eureka 4870. I think that is due in large part to the manual operation of the height adjustment.
The height should be adjusted to the highest level that actually works on the carpet being vacuumed. If it is adjusted too low, the resistance from the carpet versus the powerful motor on the 4870 stresses the belt too much and it breaks.
I've used the same belt on my 4870 for well over two years and it seems to be as good as new. I have a fairly thick carpet and adjust the height to the next to the highest position for most of the carpeted areas of the house. We have some rugs and other carpeted areas where I need to drop the height down, but usually the third level down from the highest works well on those. Properly adjusted the 4870 cleans very well, fluffs up the carpet, and extends the belt life.
The bottom line on this is if you don't stress the belt by adjusting the height too low for the carpet; the belt can last for years.

Surprised how easy it is to break a belt Jun 20, 2010
By Michael R. Williams
"M. Williams"
I use my vacuum most commonly on a room that has indoor/outdoor carpet. So the height adjustment is one or two notches away from bare floor. With this adjustment the very first time I used the vacuum I broke a belt!!! I believe it resulted from putting the vacuum back in the upright locked position while the vacuum was still on and the brush was still spinning. Doing this seems to put a great amount of stress on the brush spinning process. Therefore causing the belt to snap!
I would suggest ALWAYS turning the vacuum off before putting it in the upright locked position. Just in case I forget, I bought two more belts!

Genuine Eureka Product, Good Price, Fast Delivery Feb 24, 2011
By PF I bought this replacement belt plus (2) HEPA filters from Amazon. Free Super Saver shipment arrived 3rd day after order placement. All parts were all genuine Eureka.
NOTES Recommend buying from Amazon (they were not the default vendor, I had to click the button under "More buying choices"). I would buy again.

Not the real thing Jul 16, 2010
By rojas683 The belts that I received are not Eureka originals rather a generic brand and they do not work as well. They are slightly bigger and so they fit loose on the vac. I have already had to use 2 of them because the first one slipped off and burnt.
Not happy with my purchase.

Finally found it Feb 07, 2007
By Geoffrey Dunkak After wasting several hours going from one store to another (all licensed Eureka dealers BTW) I finally had the good sense to search for this on Amazon. Bingo. Five minutes later I have what I need. I little pricey for a strip of rubber, but cheaper than a new vacuum.
